The Best Jailbreak Apps 2010

Just jailbreak your iPhone? Wondering what to do next? Why all the hype about jailbreaking? Answer, the jailbreak apps available on Cydia. Jailbreak apps bring new and exciting functionality to your iPhone. Everything Verizon says “iDont” the iPhone does with the best jailbreak apps. I could easily make a list with 100 jailbreak apps but let’s just start off with a few of the best jailbreak apps.
- Winterboard – Tired of looking at same exact iPhone theme all the time? Look no further, from the creator of Cydia, Winterboard. This App will let you change every image, sound and more. Thousands of pre-made themes for this baby await you on Cydia. And to put the icing on the cake, it’s modular! You can easily mix and match themes together giving your iPhone a fresh look.
- Installous – Want free Appstore apps? This App will let you find, download and install any Appstore app right on your iPhone for free! Yes, these are illegal downloads. But seriously 80% of the apps on the Appstore are completely worthless. My philosophy has always been try it, if you like it, then buy it. The Hackulous team has put together a new site, Apptrackr, and it’s faster then ever before!
- SBSettings – Quick and easy settings toggles from within any application. Simply slide your finger across the status bar and this customizable toggle menu will drop down. No longer will you have to suffer from closing your current application to make simple changes. There are several other features and additional toggles that can be downloaded for all your quick setting toggle needs.
- iRealSMS – Easily the best SMS / Text MSG app out there. Text from within any application. Quick reply, quick send, contact pictures, picture messaging support, privacy settings and much more. This is definitely an app I can not live without. It really does make texting the easiest function on my iPhone.
- Music Controls – Adds backgrounding and system integration into many popular music applications and gives you many ways to control your music, via popup controls, lockscreen controls, headset controls, statusbar controls and lockscreen swipe gestures. Music Controls has support for 26 different programs.

In the Winterboard-presentation; what is the name of the first theme? The one with the planet earth. Looks beautiful!
That is dBar 50 by patrese. There are a lot of variants of his dBar themes on xSellize. You can download the one pictured here. If you need help installing it just let me know
Yes, help please
Download the theme
Extract the contents of the file using winrar.
You should have a dBar 50 folder now, inside you’ll find another dBar 50 folder, Wallpaper.png, install notes, previews and page sets.
Copy the Wallpaper.png into the dBar 50 folder.
Connect to your iPhone using SSH
Use SSH and transfer the dBar 50 folder (the one inside the dBar 50 folder, yay confusing) to…
/var/stash/Themes/
Make sure you copied the right one, you should see a Info.plist file inside the
/var/stash/Themes/dBar 50/ directory
That’s it, it’s installed. Go to winterboard and activate the dBar 50 theme from the list.
This particular theme requires FiveIRows and Five Column Spring Board from Cydia. Without them it will look off.
You must organize your apps on the home screen to match the preview. Otherwise you’ll have to create custom App icons and edit a file to get the same text appearance. I’ll be going over all that soon in a new post.
The install notes inside should help you out with changing your weather location and other things.
Is it possible to get custom apps to fit the home screen? i.e. Calendar or facebook.
Unfortunately you have to create your own images for the app icons. The custom images would go inside Icons directory for the theme …/dBar 50/Icons/. The custom image must be 45x45px in .png format . Name the custom image after the app you’re looking to replace. i.e. calendar.png to change the calendar icon.
Great info! Thanks. Now I need to get an iPhone
What’s the name of the middle or second Winterbord theme in your example? I must get that theme.
The theme is iReda, it’s a copy of the Touch Pro2 HD’s UI. I wasn’t able to find any download links in the thread for you, sorry
How do you get the weather and time like in the first and second winterboard themes?
For the second one, iReda, just go to cydia, click on search and type in iReda. The only thing left to do is install it
i installed the ireda but all my icons and folders appear on top of the screen. i’m new to the iphone and jailbreaking. i just liked the look and feel of the evo but didn’t want to be on the sprint network. would love to have something more like that homescreen or dashboard or whatever you call it. thanks for any help you can give me. total novice here.
Is there a way to view themes befor installing them?
Hi there,

thanks in advance,
-element
Hi Mikro
You are a great teacher! I am a complete beginner but have managed to do exactly as per your instrcutions and got the planet picture into my iPad! I feel awesome!
Please now advise on the next steps to get the complete look of the whole theme.
Many thanks in advance for your valued time.
Have a great day.

I got iReda it only has some things
Mikro, I’ve installed the dbar 50 theme to your instructions, but it didn’t work out so well. This is my first run at jailbreaking, everything seemed to be going smoothly until I tried installing this. I don’t know if it’s because I have 4.01 installed or what, but the status bar up top is still vanilla, I don’t have the sliding pages for my icons, not even the tab on the right to access it, the custom icons don’t fit properly when placed at the top or bottom, ie. they overlap the dividers on the wallpaper.. it’s a mess. My lock screen is also vanilla and when I charge my phone the artwork for the battery is strange as though it’s cut off at the top and bottom waiting for more background artwork to be there when it’s not. I could use some help if possible. xSellize is down so I can’t go online to the official website, and I could really use some tips from someone who knows what they’re doing. Am I missing more 3rd party apps? I’ve installed the fiveirows and five column springboard, which worked, but it looks absolutely terrible lol. Thoughts?
I haven’t had to chance to test many themes with 4.01. From what I’ve heard apple has changed the file structure in OS4. There are problems with older themes not being updated for OS4 but Winterboard should work with OS4 no problem! I think the status bar is currently unskinnable and may never be. I know this happened with skinned keyboards in OS2 when upgrading to OS3.
-I actually don’t recall what the third winterboard theme is. You can install any theme using same procedure for dbar to install basically any theme or create your own!
Site updates coming soon.
Can anybody tell me whats the first winterboard theme with the world on it?? and is it clear on the iphone 4??
The first theme is dbar 50 and I’m not sure if its been updated for the iPhone 4′s retina display.
Where is Installous???????
Not on Cydia
Installous comes from hackulo.us which isn’t a repo in Cydia by default. Check out My Installous Guide. It goes over adding the repo to Cydia and such.
how do i get my apps to look like the first one under irealsms?
hey, what is that 2nd them called on winterboard?
Okay so this is great like the ireal sms and all but does anyone know if theres a way to change if i can send sms over wifi while using my same phone number? because often times i have wifi and no service… but i dont want to use a third party app, i just want to change how i send it… is this possible?
how do you get Installous?
Check out my post on installing installous.
i installed the ireda but all my icons and folders appear on top of the screen. i’m new to the iphone and jailbreaking. i just liked the look and feel of the evo but didn’t want to be on the sprint network. would love to have something more like that homescreen or dashboard or whatever you call it. thanks for any help you can give me.
You should look into getting Gridlock. It will let you place your icons where ever you want on the screen. Maybe one day we will have good widget capabilities on the iPhone like the Android phones do but currently there is nothing really that impressive
i just bought a iphone 4 and want to jailbreak it is there any easy way
You can jailbreak your iPhone 4 if it’s running firmware version 4.1 check out my iPhone jailbreak guide. If you just purchased your iPhone 4 I would hold off because it would have come with the 4.2 firmware. You can jailbreak 4.2 firmware but it’s currently tethered only. There is an un-tethered jailbreak in development which should be released shortly. Keep checking back
Sweet stuff, I’m downloading iRealSMS now since TextNow (from the AppStore of course) sucks.
Some other cool things you guys should look into in Cydia are: Barrel – Cool transitions when sliding between pages, CodeThemed – Make your own Winterboard themes, and for anyone who uses Install0us: UDID Faker.
Also, for some reason on 4.1 I cannot change the keyboard or calculator color, is it the firmware version’s fault, or am I doing something wrong?
Oh, and there is one more thing I’m wondering if anyone can help me with. For some reason my wi-fi signal keeps glitching. What happens is it will randomly disconnect from it for a few seconds, and then reconnect — this really messes up download when you can’t resume them.
I’m guessing one of my apps isn’t meant for the Firmware version I have, and I deleted most my tweaks; it still does it. If anyone has any other suggestions, I’d greatly appreciate it.
Try insomnia to force your wifi to remain connected all the time. If that doesn’t work try resetting your network settings (settings – general – reset – network settings) enjoy
I can’t find iRealSMS on Installous or Apptrackr. Does anyone know where i can find it?
iRealSMS is available on cydia. Apptrackr and installous are for apple approved apps.
To get installous, go to Cydia, then go to manage, sources, edit, add, the type in http://Cydia.hackulo.us
You will then get a new source, go in it and look for installous.
