iPhone 4S Jailbreak Coming Soon
With any luck we could see a jailbreak release for the iPhone 4S & iPad 2 really soon, like within the next few days. iPhone hacker Pod2g has been working hard and has put together his hacking dream team to focus on the iPhone 4S jailbreak.
What does this mean for us? Well we don’t have very much information on the progress or the jailbreak in general. Earlier this week Pod2g tweeted that he had made some major progress on the jailbreak, as seen below. He has also made a blog post about why it’s not possible yet, even though some of his team members have jailbroken A5 devices.
Just wanted to make some clarifications for all those out there who are waiting on this jailbreak.
This jailbreak may not work on future iOS software versions. At this time it’s recommended that you have your iPhone / iPad updated to version 5.01 as this is the version that the jailbreak will support. It’s also possible that Apple will push out a software update soon. This means you should buy your iPhone / iPad now if you haven’t already as newly purchased devices will come with the updated software and you will NOT have a jailbreak. You should also update your iOS software if you haven’t already. Once the newer version is pushed out, Apple will stop signing the old software and you will not be able to get it on your device.
We don’t know if the jailbreak will contain a boot exploit. My guess is probably not, and if that’s the case it will not support future versions of iOS. The reason we’re able to jailbreak all the older Apple iPhones and devices is because the exploit used to jailbreak exists in the hardware. Apple can’t patch / fix your hardware, therefore making these devices always jailbreak-able.
We also know that it is possible to jailbreak an A5 device. Older iPad 2′s can be jailbroken using jailbreakme.com thanks to Comex who is no longer part of the jailbreaking scene. What sucks even more is I believe he stopped when someone Leaked his jailbreak to the public. This was very upsetting and that person is also responsible for our lack of a iPhone 4S jailbreak right now. If it hadn’t leaked it the exploit used would have been kept secret until the release of the iPhone 4S then viola!
