Do you have a lot of iPhone Apps? Having trouble finding an app? Want an iPhone folders app to clean up all that clutter. The Categories jailbreak app lets you easily sort all of your apps. Simply create folders that contain apps of your choosing. This jailbreak app is also highly customizable with options to change you folder’s appearance.

 

The Categories iPhone folders app also comes in a paid version called CategoriesSB which has SpringBoard (SB) integration. CategoriesSB has a nicer feel, appearance and the folder apps open instantly.

To create a new folder app simply tap the Add button from within the categories app. You’ll be prompted for a category title. Enter the title for your new category and tap Add.

Tap your newly created folder, select the apps to add and tap done.

Tap the Add button to add more apps. To remove an app from the category tap the red – next to the app. To the right is a drag handle to arrange the folders apps. You can always come back later and change these it’s not permanent.

Once you’re done press the home button on your iPhone. It will respring and you should see a newly created iPhone folder app.

Changing the folders appearance – Open the Categories jailbreak app and Tap the Edit button. From here you can edit your folder’s name and icon, delete folders and edit the folder display settings.

The folder display settings will be different for those using the Categories and those using the CategoriesSB iPhone folders app.

    Settings for the free iPhone folders app:
    These settings are also accessible within the category from the “i” button in the bottom right.

  • Show Titlebar – Displays the name of your category under the status bar
  • Show Icon Labels – The text under each app
  • Background Image – Apply custom background images(more about this below)
  • Keep Resident – Keeps the folder backgrounded reducing the load time
  • Left/Right Scroll – You can have the apps scroll left/right or up/down
  • Rows (L/R Only) – How many rows of apps the category will display
  • Icon Font Color – Changes the text color under each app
  • Icons Theme – Lets you use custom icons from winterboard themes
    Settings for CategoriesSB:
    Appearance

  • Show Titlebar – Displays the name of your folder under the status bar
  • Use Titlebar Image – Apply custom titlebar images(see more below)
  • Use Background Image – Apply custom background images(more about this below)
  • Hide Dock – Hides the app dock at the bottom of the screen
  • Animate Open/Close – Disable the open/close animations
    General
  • Scroll Horizontally – You can have the apps scroll left/right or up/down
  • Swipe To Close – Lets you close the open category with a swipe
  • Show Cumulative Badge – Display a badge for all the apps within the category. Example – The mail app displays how many unread emails you have, if you place the mail app inside a category you’ll see the badge displaying a number on the category.
    Extras:

  • Custom category background images – SSH to /var/stash/Applications.xxxxxx(the number at the end is random from my experiences) in this directory you’ll find your folders name followed by .app. Copy your custom background image to that folder. The image must be named Background.PNG and be 320×480.
    Example – My category is jailbreak apps, copy the image to /var/stash/Applications.8v9Zqe/jailbreakapps.app/ directory
  • Custom titlebar images – SSH to /var/stash/Applications.xxxxxx(the number at the end is random from my experiences) in this directory you’ll find your folder name followed by .app. Copy your custom titlebar image to that folder. The image must be named Titlebar.PNG – dimensions: 320×34 (vertical scroll mode), 320×21 (horizontal)
    Example SSH location – My category is jailbreak apps, copy the image to /var/stash/Applications.8v9Zqe/jailbreakapps.app/

  • Custom icon layouts can only be applied to CategoriesSB via Iconoclasm.
